Healing Soup Club

ree

This is a recruitment email! I need more people for my club. So far we have 9 wonderful women involved in this beautiful endeavor.

So my first blog on my herbal product site was about this special cabbage soup I made. I was posting the recipe so I could be let off the hook from making it anymore. But I went back and now make it again and take it more seriously.

I’ll tell you how it came to be.

I was complaining to my teacher and mentor about how busy I was and how I felt like I couldn't cope with everything. I asked her what I could take out so I could accomplish what I needed to (she said to get more cleaning help). I mentioned the cabbage soup that I tried to make weekly, (I was doing it on and off after I “quit”) and that it wasn’t always appreciated, and that it took a long time, but that it was so super healthy and I did really want to improve the lives of people. My mentor happens to not be into health or nutrition at all but this time, she surprised me. “You have a soup that is healing and specifically good for people with yene machla (cancer)? You can save lives! Of course you shouldn’t stop that!” She insisted. So here I was calling her to help reduce my projects, and she just encouraged me to keep it up.

So I continued but this time with more purpose.

A couple of months ago I reached out on Whatsapp and got 8 volunteers to join me. They ordered their pots and their herbs, they found which store or farmers market to go to get the fresh ingredients, they buckled down to find people who need the healing, and they got to work. We post pictures to each other, encourage each other, and share tips.

Honestly, it does take time from your week. I tell the club members to take a bowl for themselves. It’s a well earned treat, and it is soooo delicious. Trust me.

Some women are cooking for their own relatives, some are still in the process of finding someone who needs, and some know they need help because there are too many in their community who could use the soup and they are only one person. That’s why we need more members.

So if you want to help or you know someone who would want, please send them this email and call them.

Am yisroel is a nation filled with good deeds like a pomegranate. And most are already involved in chessed. So here is one more chessed to consider.

Also, some of the volunteers want to help cook or shop and deliver, but don’t have the financial means to buy the ingredients each week. It's not cheap, but so worth it, and it is okay to use maaser money, but ask your rabbi if you feel unsure. So if you want to help but don't have time I can also connect you to some of the volunteers to help sponsor their soup purchases; it will always be welcome.

Please email me at nechamasmith@gmail.com. Right now our group is on Whatsapp but we will probably move soon to Telegram.

Thank you future healing soup club members! And thank you to those who will pass this message along to someone else who may consider joining. And thank you everyone for even reading this!

May Hashem bring healing to all of His children.

Have a wonderful week!
